FORT BRAGG, CALIFORNIA U. S. A.

2014, Nov, 2 & 3

During the fall of 2014 Serena and I partook of a free flight, courtesy of Air Canada from Vancouver, B C. Canada to San Francisco, return.

On this trip, using my Fuji Pix ST6000 and her iPad, Serena took most of the pictures.

After flying into San Francisco we drove Hwy. 101 & 128 to the town of Fort Bragg then backtracked South of town where we stayed at the Pine Beach Inn.

The next day, courtesy of the Tourist Association we rode the Skunk Train up the hills into the Redwood Forest.

River industry pictures are taken from the bridge on highway 1 - looking East.

Our first night in town we were looking for seafood.

Driving around the waterfront we came across Sea Pal Cove.

Sunday night and they were just about closing, so we ate inside.

Two orders of fish and chips and we were stuffed just eating one.

The second night we ate at Angelina's, downtown, on the highway (400 S. Main St.).

I had the Chicken Pasta and Serena had a clam shell ragout, Excellent.

PINE BEACH INN

They say - `you get what you pay for'. This is usually true though sometimes it is in reverse of what you expect.

Take, for instance, the Pine Beach Inn. One would rate this as a one or two star lodge. A typical old roadside motel. And it is. It is older and to the side of a road.

(Entrance and office Pine Beach Inn - Ft. Bragg, California, USA.)

The street to the South goes into a private subdivision of cliff top dwellings.

The turn to the right takes you to the office and driving straight ahead takes you to a large common area, with gazebo, which separates the wings of the motel, further insuring calm and quite in the units themselves.

To the North of the Inn is a canyon filled with growth which makes it hard to see and leaves a large space of nothing but green along the side of the highway which means when you approach the tall sign at night it is easy to find your way home.

A SMALL SELF SERVE BREAKFAST IS AVAILABLE IN THE LOBBY

Once the main coastal highway throughout the state it is still the only road South to North on this part of the California coast.

Consequently it is fairly busy, yet the motel only has a few of its units facing the road and even then they are set back away from the traffic noise.

Behind the West wing of the inn is a paved path that is fairly steep and leads to the bottom of the canyon and the mouth of a small creek.

This area can be fairly dangerous, if there is a large storm brewing on the Pacific Ocean, and there are signs warning you to stay away.

However on a calm day it is a lovely stretch of beach where you may spot some wildlife in the early morning or late evening.

I saw footprints of; deer, raccoon, seagulls, fox, and dog.

There is a shower at the top of the trail to wash off the sand if you have been swimming.

Cable vision, wifi, soft beds, clean sheets, friendly staff, free breakfast, just toast and jam, and, in my book you have a gem of an accommodation hidden behind a 2 star rating.
