Nan Jing, or South Capital was once the capital city of China until they moved the capital North to Bei Jing (North Capital).

From the train station we took a number `1' bus and got off at the second stop which left us, just a short walk from our hotel.

DUONAOHE HOTEL

Smaller hotels, in China, are often set back off the street and can be hard to find.

By the time we got settled in, did a bit of shopping, we were just a block walk from `TIMES EXTRA' a large department store and super mart, then had supper, it was dark.

On the internet I had learned that the Confucius Temple was not such a much to see in the day but the lights, at night, were worth the trip.

By asking around we learned that the # 1 bus would take us within a few blocks.

Actually its end run terminal is only a short walk from the temple and market.

Primarily the city of Nan Jing is situated on the Yangtze River.

A tributary of the Yangtze is the Qin Huai River. On its banks you will find, often called the Fuzi, or Fuzimiao Temple, the -

ONCE AROUND THE LAKE

(Nan Jing, China - Xuan Wu Lake - traffic on street.)
(Nan Jing, China - Xuan Wu Lake - traffic on street.)

When stopped for a red light, if the light has just turned red, or waiting for a train, that isn't close to the end, anytime I know I am going to be stopped for at lease 50 seconds, whether driving a small car, or a big truck, I turn the motor off.

To save fuel but, more importantly, to not add more emissions to the air that I have to breath.

The city of Nan Jing has taken my idea to a higher level.

In the city of Burnaby the new intersections have timers on the crosswalks. Digital read-out signs that tell pedestrians how many seconds are left before they should be out of the intersection before traffic starts to flow again.

In Nan Jing, they also have large digital read-outs that tell traffic, in red, how much longer the lights will be red, and in green how much longer the lights will be green.

All busses, if the sign shows longer than 45 seconds, turn their motors off.

When the sign gets down to 3 seconds, if they are in the front of the line, or 0 seconds if they are near the back of the line, they restart their motors.

Many of the taxis practice this as well.

I'm not sure but I think, from the sounds of it, the busses use air, rather than electric, starters.
